The New York Yankees are going to be an intriguing team to watch heading towards the MLB trade deadline next month. After making a run to the World Series last season and coming up short against the Los Angeles Dodgers, they look the part of a potential contender once again in 2025.
So far this year heading into Saturday’s MLB action, the Yankees held a 43-32 record. There is a lot of room for improvement to the roster.
With that being said, what could New York look to do this year ahead of the deadline? Perhaps another big-time bat would be worth looking into.
One potential option has been suggested. It would take a blockbuster trade with the Cleveland Guardians to get it done.
Bleacher Report analyst Zachary D. Rymer has suggested a trade between the Yankees and Guardians that would send Jose Ramirez to New York.
“Ramírez, 32, is another guy with full no-trade protection, and thus another guy who will go anywhere only if he wants to,” Rymer wrote.
“This said, the Yankees’ contention outlook is a heck of a lot better than Cleveland’s, and that is even with a hole on their infield. He would fill that by playing third and bumping Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base, though he’d also partner with Aaron Judge to again give the Yankees the best duo in the American League.”
Ramirez would be a big-time get for the Yankees. However, a trade for him would not come cheap. It would also be a surprise to see Cleveland part with its franchise face.
So far this season, Ramirez has played in 72 games with the Guardians. He has hit 13 home runs to go along with 35 RBI, while also batting .317/.378/.528.
Those numbers would take the New York lineup to the next level. His presence would make the Yankees a much more dangerous World Series contender. He would be well worth the high price to acquire him.
Of course, this is just an idea. There have been no reports connecting New York and Cleveland to talks regarding Ramirez. But, if the Yankees want to get aggressive, they should place a call.
